Now my blog is updated until version 0.3. Haha... Just changed my friends list abit, added surnames to my church friends list coz someone requested it. =) Sorry if I didn't add your surname in coz I dunno la. Just tag me your surname k? Heh.

Last whole week super busy man, so tired. Monday I was sick, but still went to watch movie with Shawn, coz his birthday mah... See I so good! But ended up getting gastric pangs every now and then. Not fun at all.

Tuesday, started working with Auntie Karen! It was ok la, not so hard but quite boring tho. So I met Sam Goh after work to borrow his MP3 player. So that I can listen to something while I work. Heh.

Wednesday, after work went to church for main service worship practice(I'll abbervate it as MSW, I'm feeling lazy to type the whole thing out. Hehe). Practice until like 10? Then took a cab back with Sharon, coz already super tired liao.

Thursday, took a half day off to visit Uncle Francis in the hospital. See I so good right Uncle Francis? Hahaha... Then while eating lunch, Justin commented that the guy that just walked past us looks like me without glasses. I got curious so I turned around and looked, and guess what? It was my cousin!! Haha. I told them it was my cousin, but they don't believe me lor. So hurt, I'm such a honest guy! How can they don't believe me?! So I went over and said hi. Hehe... Then Ethel was like, omgosh, I don't believe it.

Friday, after work went to Uncle Francis's place for MEL, talked about having strong roots and getting the foundation right, like reading the Bible and stuff like that. Which actually ties in with the Sunday sermon, which I will talk abt later.

Saturday, went to Tropical Spring at night to be a clown for their helloween! Haha. I'm bobo, then Ethel is chacha. Super funny la. Ethel made a child cry, while all the kids were all attracted to me. Man... I guess I just have that kind of charisma you know? Hahaha... Was already super tired until can die liao by the end of the day.

Today, played drums for the Main service and Youth service, then after that had meeting for Youth camp, so whole Sunday busy. Heh. My drums playing at the MSW was bad I guess? I just can't adapt to the MSW environment. Haha. Youth on the other hand, how do I say it? I guess it was quite a mess too. I didn't know what was going on, everything was like a whirlwind spinning in my mind. Haha. Maybe too tired? Dunno. Dun care la, just play lor. Then the 3rd song, was suppose to play "His Love" the drum beat as intro. But I totally forgot, so I just did a random beat, then everyone was like staring at me. I was like "Huh?" then I remembered and played the beat. Everyone else was like laughing la, man... So paiseh. Haha. After church went with Auntie Karen, Sharon and Nic to the Botanical Gardens to listen to Dick Lee sing, he's good man! But all the songs he and all the other people sing are like oldies la, dunno a single bit. But it was a good exposure to other genres of music I guess. Anyway I did enjoy it, just that I didn't understand the music. Haha.

Anyway about the sermon, the main service one, preached by Pastor Thomas was talking about keeping the word of God in your heart, hide it inside so that you will not sin. Then Pastor Mary preaching at the youth service also talked about reading the Bible and memorising Bible verses. It all ties in with the topic shared during the MEL on friday. Really powerful stuff, and just nice all these things come in when I decided to write out the Bible to memorise it. I guess it's God's way of affirming me that what I'm gonna do is the right path yea? Haha... Well, I've already written until Chapter 3 of Genesis, and I'm gonna write one chapter a day. So it'll take me 3 years to finish copying out the whole Bible. =)

Now I'm like super exhausted from this super busy week la. Tomolo still got BBQ for the worship teams people, and are they gonna stay overnite? I dunno, but I dun think I am, or else I'll be so exhausted I think I'll most probably die. Hahaha.

Well, with that I'll end my super duper long grandmother story about my week. I think I break Jude's record of the longest blog entry liao. I'm gonna strip him of the "old grandmother blogger" title. Hahaha... =D

Yesterday was fun! After church, Alvin, Ramesh, Jeremy, Marcus, Nic, Ramesh's friend, Eudora, Sophia, Uncle Francis, Auntie Deena, Auntie Hwee Inn and me went to play basketball! Haha... So many people right?

After playing a few hours, only Alvin, Nic, Marcus and me left. All run away. Then, I guess I never listen to Uncle Francis huh? Never drink enuff water, kena dehydration. So got headache, and all that. I guess, the sudden change in sleeping patterns (Now I always sleep at 6am, wakeup at 3pm - Ahem... Sam Goh) and all that tiredness got to me? Haha...

We went to Alvin's house to watch Eveton vs Chelsea. 1-1!! Take that Chelsea! You gonna lose the next game! HAHA!

Later going to meet they all to celebrate Shawn's birthday. Hope it'll be fun. =)

Yes. So all in all, I'm rather satisfied with my results. I thank God for being ever so faithful, looking out for me everytime. Thank you God!!!! =)

I'm thinking of doing something, is it humanly possible to memorise the whole Bible? I don't know... If I were to like write down 3 chapters a day, it would take me 396 days to copy down the whole Bible. Just wondering about it, if it's just a stupid idea or whatever. I also don't think I can follow thru such a HUGE HUGE commitment. Haha. But "I can do all things through Chirst which strengtheneth me." huh? Haha...
So what do u think people?

I found some really cool stuff tho it could be a bit wordy, coz I just copied and pasted. Man, I'm plagiarizing again! Haha... Thanks Uncle Francis for asking me to do this, really interesting stuff. People who know me should know, I'm really a very last minute person, always putting off what I need to do or want to do to the last minute. So doing this the moment I reached home is really unlike me. Haha...

This is about God's name, Elohim. Uncle Francis asked me to go find out about my name, Joel. And that the 'El' in my name means something. I did some research on it, going to Joel Tay's gang's website (AiG) and searching google.

Elohim is the common name for God. It is a plural form, but "The usage of the language gives no support to the supposition that we have in the plural form Elohim, applied to the God of Israel, the remains of an early polytheism, or at least a combination with the higher spiritual beings" (Kautzsch). Grammarians call it a plural of majesty or rank, or of abstraction, or of magnitude (Gesenius, Grammatik, 27th ed., nn. 124 g, 132 h). The Ethiopic plural amlak has become a proper name of God. Hoffmann has pointed out an analogous plural elim in the Phoenician inscriptions (Ueber einige phon. Inschr., 1889, p. 17 sqq.), and Barton has shown that in the tablets from El-Amarna the plural form ilani replaces the singular more than forty times (Proceedings of the American Oriental Society, 21-23 April, 1892, pp. cxcvi-cxcix).

The Use of the Word

The Hebrews had three common names of God, El, Elohim, and Eloah; besides, they had the proper name Yahweh. Nestle is authority for the statement that Yahweh occurs about six thousand times in the Old Testament, while all the common names of God taken together do not occur half as often. The name Elohim is found 2570 times; Eloah, 57 times [41 in Job; 4 in Pss.; 4 in Dan.; 2 in Hab.; 2 in Canticle of Moses (Deut., xxxii); 1 in Prov., 1 in Is.; 1 in Par.; 1 in Neh. (II Esd.)]; El, 226 times (Elim, 9 times). Lagrange (Etudes sur les religions sémitiques, Paris, 1905, p. 71) infers from Gen., xlvi, 3 (the most mighty God of thy father), Ex., vi, 3 (by the name of God Almighty), and from the fact that El replaces Yah in proper names, the conclusion that El was at first a proper and personal name of God. Its great age may be shown from its general occurrence among all the Semitic races, and this in its turn may be illustrated by its presence in the proper names found in Gen., iv, 18; xxv, 13; xxxvi, 43. Elohim is not found among all the Semitic races; the Aramaeans alone seem to have had an analogous form. It has been suggested that the name Elohim must have been formed after the descendants of Shem had separated into distinct nations.

Meaning of the Word

If Elohim be regarded as derived from El, its original meaning would be "the strong one" according to Wellhausen's derivation of El, from ul (Skizzen, III, 169); or "the foremost one", according to Nöldeke's derivation of El from ul or il, "to be in front" (Sitzungsberichte der berlinischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, 1880, pp. 760 sqq.; 1882, pp. 1175 sqq.); or "the mighty one", according to Dillmann's derivation of El from alah or alay, "to be mighty" (On Genesis, I, 1); or, finally "He after whom one strives", "Who is the goal of all human aspiration and endeavour", "to whom one has recourse in distress or when one is in need of guidance", "to who one attaches oneself closely", coincidentibus interea bono et fine, according to the derivation of El from the preposition el, "to", advocated by La Place (cf. Lagarde, Uebersicht, etc., p. 167), Lagarde (op. cit., pp. 159 sqq.), Lagrange (Religions semitiques, pp. 79 sqq.), and others.

In Biblical times a person’s name had deep significance and was often an expression of his or her origin, character or destiny.

Names were an important subject in ancient times. The Egyptians considered a name to hold special spiritual significance. Out of respect for their gods they often incorporated a god’s name within their own, such as Tutankhamen (living image of Amen).

Specifically masculine or feminine endings were often customary in personalizing the name of a child, but royal names had no denotion of male or female. Sometimes a nickname like ‘Red’ might be applied to someone with auburn hair, just as today. The name Amenhotep was commonly abbreviated to Ameny.

Hebrew names carried great importance also, for example Jesus (Joshua in the Old Testament)means ‘God saves’. The act of naming was an exercise in authority. 2 Kings 23:34 reads that the Egyptian Pharoah Neco appointed Eliakim (‘El raises’) puppet King of Judah, and renamed him Jehoiakim (‘Yahweh raises’), presumably to assert his authority over him.

Adam was given the task of naming all the animals. Jacob had his name changed to Israel by the angel with whom he struggled, and Abram was the former name of Abraham. God’s names denote his characteristics in a way we can understand. The whole significance of names has become largely lost in modern western cultures. Naming children often depends simply upon a liking for a particular celebrity rather than on any spiritual significance.

So my name Joel means: God is willing, Jehovah is the Lord.

Cool stuff huh?! Haha... Man, this post looks like something from Professor Tay's blog. Haha... Well, have a nice week ahead! =)

Man, I'm so bored! Another day wasted watching tv and playing the computer. Haha. Anybody out there wanna go do something? I don't care what, I just wanna do something!! =)

Yesterday, something really cool happened! Haha, I was doing my morning QT right? And then I was doing the hand prayer, when I reached the pinky finger I was wondering what to pray for myself. Then I thought, hmmm... I wonder if praying for a Pan Lid (An item in a computer game) would be a stupid request and I did so anyway.

So later that day I was playing maple story for like an hour? A Pan Lid did drop! Haha. I was thinking, this can't be because I prayed for it right? I mean, such a ridiculous childish prayer! But, I thought of the countless people who hunted for the item for days! Months! And yet no Pan Lid. I just hunted for an hour and I got it! =)

Anyhow, I would really like to thank God for answering this seemingly insignificant prayer. All glory be unto God. =)

And today? Well, I got so bored that I did so many of these quizes... Haha...

Hey guys... I got conned!! No job for me, boohoo... =(
Those NUS people! I got the job like a week in advance, then their own people apply 2 days before they kicked me out and let them in. Sucks right? Man... =(

Anyway, I've been getting a lot of very vivid and real dreams for the past few nights. I wonder if it's because I don't use my brain much during my holidays, just staring at the clouds go by... Ah... So relaxing, haha. Good thing that the dreams were all nice ones, albeit they were weird ones.

I was wondering... What does "school" means to you?

To some people, school is useless. They hate studying. School is boring, and a waste of time.

To some people, school might be a place of fear. Always being bullied and ostracized by classmates. Being pressurized by teachers and parents alike to do ridiculously well in their exams.

To me however, I remembered secondary school being a place where I had fun everyday, everytime. I couldn't remember a time where I hated going to school, not because I loved studying or crap like that, but because of the great friends I made there. Even tho all our results might not be exceptionally well, we did good enough to scrap into poly, we still had loads of fun.

We made fun of teachers, fought with each other, did stupid things together. School was really such a fun place to be!

So, if you want to, you can write a comment in the comment below.

Exams are over! Yay!! Holidays! =)

I found out yesterday that it is very very lethal to have a very full stomach and laugh at the same time. Man... My friends and I were eating at Seoul Garden to celebrate, and we ate non-stop from 2.30pm to about 5pm. So we were absolutely stuffed, except for one guy who ate quite little.

Everything was fine until this one guy decided to say a joke, and all hell broke loose! We were laughing so hard, and our stomachs hurt like hell! Seeing our agony, this guy that ate very little tried his best to make us laugh again and again. Man, it felt like hell on earth! Haha. Knowing that laughing will cause pain to our, I dunno what that part of the body called, the part just below where the middle of the rib cage ends. And we can't help but laugh coz I dunno why. Haha.

One guy laughed so hard that he had to rush to the toilet to puke all that beef out. Ewww... This has got to be one of the worst Seoul Garden experience I've ever had man, but it was fun! Haha. =)

Oh yeah... I got the tour guide job! Yay! On the 6th and 13th Oct, both Thurs, I'll be leading a group of Japanese high school students around Singapore! Woohoo!! Anyway how old are high school people? o.O
